A first birthday is really a party for the parents — you survived the year, and the photos are for the future teenager who will pretend to be embarrassed by them. Having planned two of my own, my honest advice is: keep it small, schedule everything around the nap, and spend the budget on the smash cake session, because that is the album moment. One-year-olds have a 90-minute window of sparkling sociability and a hard meltdown deadline; we design the entire event inside that window, with the cake smash timed for peak cheerfulness — usually 30–40 minutes after wake-up, never right before food.
What's Included
Smash Cake Session
A soft, lightly-sweetened, baby-safe smash cake, styled backdrop with a giant number one, and 30 minutes of photo time while the destruction unfolds.
Soft-Play Corner
Mats, tunnels, ball pit and sensory toys for the guest babies — fenced, shaded and wiped down, so crawlers roam safely while parents actually finish a coffee.
Gentle Decor
Pastel balloon styling at adult-eye height for photos and baby-safe at floor level — nothing poppable or swallowable within reach.
Parent-Friendly Catering
Grazing table and proper coffee for the adults, fruit and baby-safe snacks for the small guests. First birthdays are 80% adult guests — we cater accordingly.
Designing Around a One-Year-Old
The biggest mistake at first birthdays is running them like kids parties. There are no party games at a first birthday — the guest of honour cannot walk to the piñata. What works is rhythm: a calm arrival window, the smash cake moment while the baby is fresh, mingling and food for adults while baby plays or naps, and a quiet wind-down. We schedule start time around your baby's nap pattern, not a generic timeline, and we always set up a cool, quiet feeding-and-nap room away from the music.
Bali adds sweetness and challenges in equal measure: villa gardens are gorgeous backdrops, but we plan shade obsessively for the smash session (squinting babies cry; crying babies do not smash cakes), keep the soft-play zone off hot tiles, and time outdoor photos for the golden-light window after 16:00. Many families pair the party with a full package for older siblings so everyone has their day. Prices are on the pricing page.
